Discovery of the true nature of the problem Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) in the hands of a skilled operator is a vital tool in discovering the true nature of many material problems. Oblique illumination, in combination with SEM depth of focus, enables us to visualize three-dimensionally specimens that could previously be seen only as thin sections or at a low resolution with a light microscope.
